Preserving a Legacy Beyond a Photograph
One of the most meaningful projects we have undertaken at Ola Daviva was for the family of the late Professor Ibiang Oden Ewa, a renowned scholar, author, political strategist, and respected statesman whose contributions to academia and public service earned him national recognition. When the family approached us, they wanted something different.
Rather than covering the Ankara fabric with portraits, they chose a design that reflected dignity and timelessness. The focus shifted from a photograph to preserving Professor Ewa’s legacy in a way that would allow family members and friends to continue wearing the fabric beyond the funeral ceremony.
That project reinforced something we have always believed at Ola Daviva: a person’s greatest legacy is not always found in a photograph, but in the impact they made, the values they lived by, and the memories they left behind.
The fabric became more than an aso ebi—it became a symbol of honour, respect, and enduring legacy.
I would also make the Olumegbon and Osolo story the centerpiece of the article rather than Professor Ewa’s. It is more unique because it showcases your creativity in using royal insignia and cultural symbols instead of portraits. That project demonstrates a design philosophy that very few customization companies in Nigeria have explored.
